Twelve studios will open its doors to showcase paintings, prints, photography, mixed media, drawings, ceramics and sculptures in the 2nd ArtWalk@Wessex this year.
Wessex Estate is a complex of 26 black-and-white colonial houses near Portsdown Road. It were built to house many non-commissioned British officers and soldiers when Singapore was a crown colony.
It's a rare sight now to find the estate amid lush greenery. These blocks of walk-up apartments and semi-detached houses built in early 1940s are now residential homes with a few converted into studio spaces.
Be enchanted by whimsical potteries at JoyClay Studio. Joy Loo has participated in Singaplural 2016 earlier this year. Cute greeting cards and drawings designed by Papergirl Pam are available for sale. Both Singaporean artists, Joy and Pam, share the same site.
Catch the premiere of "New York City is out there" at Frances Alleblas Studio. Her drawings are available for viewing too. She was the initiator for the very first ArtWalk@Wessex back in 2006.
Esther van Vechgel is a Dutch photographer who is known for her laid-back and full of surprises photography style. Her subjects are generally the hectic Asian city life.
Japanese ceramicist Saya Yamaguchi has various sizes of ceramic artworks on display meanwhile Max Kong has lined up some mixed-media pieces in their shared studio.

The latest artist participating in Artwalk@Wessex is Elo´se Marie Margot, a reflection artist. Her creations are intimate and personal as these are custom-made for her clients. For this open house, she borrows her work from private collectors.

After an hour or two exploring this estate, you may want to quench your thirst and stop your hunger pangs. Bicycle Barista SG will serve hand-crafted coffee from its bicycle cart. Chuckwagon BBQ & Grill now offers Sunday brunch besides lunch and dinner, and Wessex Tavern serves breakfast and lunch. Meanwhile Ristorante Pietrasanta is a good option for spending a cozy afternoon. Wander into the popular Colbar Eating House, which is decorated with vintage photographs and posters. Diners will feel transported into a time capsule.
Make your way to this picturesque neighborhood for a quiet stroll with your family and friends during the open house days. Your pooches are welcomed too! Board SBS 191 from Opposite Buona Vista Station. It will pass by a bus stop opposite Exit B of One-North Station. Alternatively, you could walk from here to the estate.
