Over two exciting weekends, art lovers from all over Melbourne and Victoria are invited to go behind-the-scenes and explore a vast range of professional artists at work, including painters, printmakers, jewellers, sculptors, multimedia artists and craftspeople.

Beating to Windward

Held biennially, Arts Open 2018 returns to Castlemaine this Labour Day long weekend and due to increasing visitor demand and previous success of the festival, it will be held over two weekends, March 10-12 and 17-18.

This anticipated visual arts extravaganza showcases the works of over 90 professional painters, printmakers, jewellers, sculptors, multimedia artists and craftspeople across the townships of Castlemaine, Newstead, Maldon, Chewton and beyond.

Over the two weekends, members of the public have a unique opportunity to meet the artists, witness the spaces in which work is created, gain insights into the creative process and purchase work directly from the artists.

This year, the Castlemaine Market Building will be the Arts Open festival information hub and present an exhibition of outstanding work from the region.
