Sports, politics and performers - no one is safe.

This beloved annual event is celebrating its 29th year in 2025 and promises to captivate audiences from May 2 - June 1 at 101 High Street in Mansfield, in northeast Victoria.

Presenting a unique and often irreverent take on portraiture, the Bald Archy Prize celebrates the lighter side of art and the larrikin Australian spirit and encourages artists to explore new and creative ways of portraying public figures. This year, subjects include Kitty Flannagan, Anthony Albanese, Peter Dutton, Raygun the break dancer, Gina Reinhardt and myriad other Australians.

Arts Mansfield President Emma McPherson said the organisation is delighted to host these eccentric artworks again and bring them to Victoria.

"We’ve been fortunate to be back at 101 High in the middle of Mansfield, and we’re ready to deliver what this irreverent exhibition demands, it's a fun event, and we want to highlight that.

"Autumn is a great time to visit the Mansfield, it's beautiful, so we're advising everyone add a trip to the High Country before June 1.

"The gallery is close to the bus stop, and the VLine timetable is perfect for planning a day trip with time for lunch, and the Archies.

"Last year was a great success, and we look forward to welcoming visitors and locals back for a few laughs in the gallery."

    About the Bald Archy Prize

Judge, Professor Maude Cockatoo, with an online PhD from the Marilyn Munro University of Little Rock, is the most qualified art critic, avian or otherwise, in Australia (according to Maude). As Coolac's Visual Arts Laureate, Maude has been the sole judge of the Bald Archy Prize from its inception at the 1994 Coolac Festival of Fun.

The name "Bald Archy" is a play on the Archibald Prize, and it also refers to the fact that caricatures often exaggerate features, including the subject's hair.

Established in 1994 by artist Peter Batey as a light-hearted alternative to the prestigious Archibald Prize, a major portraiture award in Australia, it is now a national touring exhibition presented by the Museum of the Riverina.

    Abouts Arts Mansfield

Arts Mansfield is a 100% volunteer run organisation which, for over 25 years, has been committed to promoting artistic expression in all its forms and bringing Arts experience to the region.

At our organisation HQ - MACS, The Mansfield Arts Collective Studios, resident artists regularly offer workshops and host exhibitions. Through various programs, workshops, and events, Arts Mansfield provides a platform for individuals to explore and express their artistic passions.

The group actively engages with local artists, aspiring talents, and the wider community to create an environment that values and celebrates creativity within the Mansfield Shire. They are also responsible for hosting the highly regarded Klytie Pate Ceramics Award back in September 2025, Three Faces Art Prize and Postcards exhibitions, and now The Bald Archy Prize. By nurturing a culture of creativity, Arts Mansfield seeks to enhance the quality of life in the Mansfield Shire, supporting a sense of identity, pride, and connection among its residents.
