The Arts Centre Gold Coast offers the musical "A Morning With …" program. The schedule for these affordable daytime concerts, showing every second month until the end of the year, includes the toe tapping rhythms of the The Andrews Sisters. If you were around in their day you would remember their hits from the swing and boogie-woogie eras. For those who are too young to remember - In the 1940s the sisters became the most profitable stage attraction in America, earning $20,000 a week. Aside from singing, the sisters were established radio personalities, and made appearances in 17 Hollywood movies. Throughout their long career, the sisters sold well over 75 million records - they had 113 charted Billboard hits, 46 reaching Top 10 status - more than Elvis Presley or The Beatles according to Wikipedia.

During World War II they entertained the Allied forces extensively in America, Africa and Italy, visiting Army, Navy, Marine and Coast Guard bases, war zones, hospitals, and munitions factories. I loved reading that while touring, they often treated three random servicemen to dinner when they were dining out. The youngest sister, Patty died in January this year, just 17 days shy of her 95th birthday.

Catch their hits on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at 11am, with a light tea being served at 10.15am. There will also be lucky door prizes. Single tickets cost $19, groups of 6 plus cost $16.50pp. Book here. If it's a trip down memory lane you are after, this is definitely a date for your diary.

The line up for the year also includes two Australian stars of the Australian production of Phantom of the Opera, who will perform "soaring vocals from Puccini, Lloyd Webber, Freddy Mercury and George Gershwin in a concert that will leave you begging for more!" The date for your diary for this musical offering is: Tuesday, June 11, 2013. It starts at 11am and costs $19pp (group price also available). Click here for ticket bookings .

The October music date is with Karen Knowles. Her career stared out on "Young Talent Time" and has since spanned several decades and all forms of performance - recording, music theatre, live performance, television and theatrical credits. Book a seat for Wednesday, Oct 2 at 11am, to enjoy a selection of her most-requested songs.

The year concludes with an "It's Christmas Time" celebration, with favourite carols and sing along songs as well as a guest appearance by the big man in the red suit. For a celebration of Christmas Cheer, book tickets for Mon Dec 9 at 11am.
