This week, I had the opportunity to participate in an eco watercolour workshop by Arts by Nature . It was a morning well spent at Onkaparinga River National Park. The Chapel Hill Picnic Ground has easy parking, clean toilets, well-maintained picnic facilities and a calm environment perfect for anyone to simply sit and paint the day away.

The workshop involves creating an A4-size artwork of Australian gumnuts. Charlene, our local artistic guide, showed us step-by-step how to blend, layer and detail using earth pigments. Having not painted since my high school days, I learned a lot about eco watercolour and was very appreciative of Charlene's guidance. She has a great personality too.

After approximately two hours, eight creative works of art were 'magically' produced. This is a testament to not only the participants' natural aptitude but also, more importantly, the instructor's ability to teach. Paper, brushes, paints, etc were all supplied. We had a lovely morning together and the finished product was ours to take home.

To find out more about Arts by Nature and the workshops currently on offer, head to their website or Facebook page . There are sensory sessions for children as well. If you're organising a birthday or special event and looking for something different, feel free to contact them at [email protected].
