Most of us don't remember our experiences as two-year olds. But Sheryl Newell does. For Sheryl, her love for and interest in art started when she was just two. Since then, she has been creating masterpieces of breathtaking landscapes, exquisite portraits and the joyous moments of everyday life.

This is Sheryl Newell, country girl, wife, mum of two, Christian, and a true master artist.

About Sheryl
Sheryl Newell is a professional artist based in Moneymore, Northern Ireland. Creating artworks has always been her lifelong passion, and so she studied art at university. She then graduated as a teacher of Art and Technology and Design in 2002 and has taught Art and Design now for 16 years at Dunluce School.

Over the years Sheryl has sold many of her artworks, she has had numerous commissions and her masterpieces have been shown at many galleries and exhibitions.

Sheryl specialises in many different art mediums but it wasn't until her son was born that she began to absorb herself back into what she loves best: painting. "I would describe my painting style as Hyperrealism," she tells me. "For me the ultimate challenge is to achieve and resemble the standard of a high-resolution photograph. I use a range of medium from oil, acrylic, water-colour, charcoal, pastel and pencil."
Sheryl prefers variety in her subjects when painting. "I don't usually stick to the same subject," she explains. "Landscapes, animals/pets, people, portraits, tractors, cars, boats, planes, architecture, plants, fruit, flowers all feature as my subject matter. Whatever the subject, it is more important to me that my work is characterised by perfect colour, light and as said before- photogenic likeness. I am a people's painter and I like to evoke memories that most of us can relate to. Whether it's a day out at the beach, a special person or place, I will paint whatever people love."

The wonders of Northern Ireland
Growing up and living along the North Coast of Ireland, Sheryl has always been inspired by its magnificent scenery and wild beauty. The North Coast is the basis of many of her landscape paintings. "I am constantly on the lookout for subjects of natural beauty," she says. "And I never go far without my camera as I like to capture an image that has a special meaning to me."

Such as the famous Giants' Causeway.

And Carrick-O-Rede Bridge.

As well as Mussenden Temple in Castlerock.

And Dunluce Castle.

A country girl at heart
Sheryl is a country girl and was brought up on a farm in Garvagh. Her happy childhood memories of rural life have had a great impact on her work and have inspired many of her paintings.

Capturing that photogenic likeness
Sheryl has an extraordinary talent in capturing that photographic quality in her portraits. She has skilfully painted very intricate and detailed likenesses of animals as well as famous people such as the former US President John F. Kennedy, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and professional Irish golfer Rory McIllroy.

Mum, wife and loving God
Even though Sheryl spends a lot of her time creating masterpieces, she also has a busy life being a wife and mum. She is married to her husband Keith, and they have a son called James, and a daughter called Faith. Being a fulltime mum to young children means that Sheryl works from home. "However it is a very special occasion when I get the opportunity to head off on my own and paint from life!" she tells me.

But there is one other thing that is very important to Sheryl. Not only is she a professional artist, wife and mum. She is also a Christian. Her faith is very central to her identity and to her work.
"I want to honour God through my painting," she explains to me. "And I feel I can do this by adding the word of God to my work. I love God and my relationship with Him means more to me than words can say. He is my everything."

"My paintings range from small to large," Sheryl says. "The price is usually determined by scale and detail, as there is more time involved. My work can be purchased online or email me on [email protected] if you require something bespoke. I am always happy to accept commissions."

As well as selling originals, Sheryl also sell prints. Prints are available with Bible verses on them. If there is a particular verse in the bible that you like, it can be added easily and simply.
