I recently got see Arthur Christmas before it's Australian release, and I was pleasantly surprised.
Arthur Christmas is the story of Arthur (James McAvoy) the son of Santa Clause who is voiced by Jim Broadbent and Mrs Clause (Imelda Staunton). When Arthur realises that a child has been missed this Christmas he sets off the deliver the presents and save Christmas.
I know it sounds like every animated movie that is released every Christmas but Arthur Christmas is a movie that everyone can enjoy, I even went without the excuse of having to take children.
I think the appeal of Arthur comes from the writing, and even though it is by the writer of I am Alan Partridge it is one for the children. Animation is by Aardman Animations who are responsible for Wallace and Gromit and Flushed Away, so it comes with a wonderful almost claymation feel which I feel adds to the magical feel of the whole movie.
Arthur Christmas follows the long tradition of famous actors lending their voices to children's animation features with a cast the includes not only those already mentioned but also Hugh Laurie (House, Blackadder), Bill Nighy (Love Actually, Pirates of the Caribbean) and Ashley Jensen (Extras, Ugly Betty).
Arthur Christmas is in cinemas and is available in 2D and 3D.
I can highly recommend Arthur Christmas as fun family entertainment for this Christmas holiday.
