Are you sick of the same old live entertainment being offered in pubs and clubs? Can't stand to hear another band or
observational stand up comedian ? Then head to the
Hive Bar for something completely different.
is a celebration of the strange and wacky, and also a place for amateur acts to receive some stage time. This event provides a stage and a friendly audience, where performers can test out their act without fear of failure. In return, the audience receives a free night of live entertainment, with comedy, tragedy, stand up, poetry recitals, music, magic and everything in between.
The show is split into two halves, with the first half a compilation of 5 – 10 short (up to ten minutes) acts, while the second half consists of one longer performance of around fifty minutes.
Anyone can perform and the guidelines are pretty broad – according to the website, acts that are 'theatrical/circus-y/musical/burlesque-y and really fun' are preferred. Each performer receives ten minutes in the spotlight. If you are interested, contact the Fringe Affair with a brief biography of you or your group and a short description of the act. All performances are unpaid.
Past shows include a comic horror performance by Good News Week writers, psychedelic pop by
Ex-Trendy and 'chanteuse extraordinaire'
Gigi Fontaine .
takes to the stage every second Wednesday night from 7.30pm at the Hive Bar (
