Boyd Family Collection" width="570" wrap="0" link="http://www.weekendnotes.com/im/003/09/09-shoalhaven-as-the-river-styx-sml11.jpg"]Bundanon Trust's new three-year nationally touring exhibition, 'Arthur Boyd: Landscape of the Soul', is coming to the Ipswich Art Gallery for a strictly limited season this May.Ipswich Art Gallery is the only South-East Queensland venue to present this significant exhibition.'Landscape of the Soul' traces the career of renowned Australian artist Arthur Boyd, from his adolescence to his final years.The stunning exhibition was curated by renowned expert Barry Pearce, former Head Curator of Australian Art at the Art Gallery of NSW. As a personal friend of Boyd, Pearce brings a unique insight to his curatorial role, allowing the exhibition to move beyond the traditional academic understanding of Boyd's career and delve deeper into the rich personal landscape of the acclaimed Australian artist.

c.1976, Oil on canvas, Bundanon Trust Collection" border="1" margin="5" align="CENTER"]The exhibition is drawn principally from Bundanon Trust's own collection of the artist's work and includes several masterpieces borrowed from the National Gallery of Australia, Art Gallery of NSW, National Gallery of Victoria and other state galleries.Complementing the display of 60 paintings are 20 works on paper, as well as insightful letters, photographs and sketchbooks.The never-before-seen works created by Boyd as a teenager offer an in-depth look at the artist's powerful early grasp of the landscape as a subject. The display is bookended by Boyd's youthful paintings of the Mornington Peninsula in the 1930s and the final phase of his career, depicting the Shoalhaven area in southern New South Wales in the mid-1970s.'Arthur Boyd: Landscape of the Soul' considers not only the topographic landscape, but also the landscape Boyd carried within himself.All are welcome to visit Arthur Boyd: Landscape of the Soul, a FREE exhibition at Ipswich Art Gallery from 25 May to 18 August 2019, open 7 days 10am-5pm.
