Marc Huntington from ArtBoy Gallery
ArtBoy Gallery is a great find if you're looking for art that's fun and quirky with a pop-culture and urban focus. Situated in the cafe, fashion, art precinct of Chapel street, Prahran, it's affordable art with its arms wide open to the common man. The gallery houses 99% of its artwork sourced from Melbourne. What better way to support your local artist.

This year 2014 marks the 4th birthday since Mark and his partner Matt opened ArtBoy with Mark being the hands-on go-to person at the gallery. He's been working in galleries since he left school and has spent 20 years selling art, starting with posters and framing and moving on to the high end original art industry over time.
Tiring of everyone else having the ultimate say, 6 years ago he toyed with the idea of putting all his knowledge about art to good use for himself and this gave birth to Artboy.

ArtBoy Gallery
The concept of the gallery is to not be pretentious and to strip away the fabric of what people see as a gallery. His focus is for the experience to be open, contemporary, a retail place that's fun, bold, vibrant, with lots of energy that can be enjoyed and appreciated from teenager to maturity.

The artists consists of those who work with different mediums which include digital, collage, photography, paper sculpture, stencil work, and illustrations, to name a few. There's always something happening at the gallery each month, so it pays to keep a watchful eye on them either via their webpage or their Facebook page.

This piece of art by Ella Smethurst caught my eye.
ArtBoy has its stable artists whom have their artwork always on display at the gallery, but they are always planning six months ahead for monthly and two weekly exhibitions where they invite and sign artists whom meet ArtBoy's vision and focus, for display at these special events or group shows that may have a theme.
For instance, last month they had the Transformers theme, and of the invited artists, those whom thought the theme suited their artistic vision submitted their work for showing at ArtBoy and there were some amazing artwork and sculptures to see.

If you're looking to get out of your comfort zone and be open to all that is creative in the art world, or want to get that special original gift for someone special, I would definitely put ArtBoy on my list.
