If you're anything like me you dabble in a few crafty things such as drawing, painting, crochet and so on. As I'm strictly an amateur I like to shop in places that give me great advice and answer my somewhat clueless questions. Two art supply stores I've had occasion to visit lately are Riot Art and Craft at Indooroopilly Shoppingtown and Eckersley's at Milton.

1. Eckersley's at Milton is a small but efficiently packed store that supplies everything you could possibly want for hobby artists as well as aspiring professional artists. The store has paint supplies, pastels, high quality drawing pencils, watercolours, quick drying clay and tools, Lino printing material and tools, paper for drawing and painting, calligraphy and printmaking tools. Eckersley's also has a range of kids' craft items as well as kits and books. It's fun just to wander the aisles and contemplate what you'll try next.
The staff are very helpful and when I went to buy materials for school holiday activities were very good about helping me find the cheaper options for my son and higher quality materials for myself.
2. Riot Art and Craft store is packed with kids craft projects but also has large sections full of painting, scrap booking, drawing and painting supplies. It has a great range of paints (water colour, acrylics and oil) and canvases as well as Fimo and modelling clay, pastels, items for modelling and paper mâché.
It's a great place to buy kids' birthday presents with lots of craft kits between $10-$20. If you're having a kids party it's a great place to buy supplies to decorate your venue.
The staff are enthusiastic and helpful. The main problem is stopping yourself before you buy too much.
