Songs in English at Swanbourne
Classical lovers will are set for an enchanting evening of song at Art Song Perth's first recital for 2016 at Swanbourne on March 12.

The Songs in English event will showcase musical stories and composers over a span of four centuries, highlighting songs often neglected in favour of French mélodie, or German lieder.

Audiences can expect a varied program of songs by William Byrd, William Walton, Roger Quilter, Charles Ives, Charles Stanford and Benjamin Britten, with musical moods from the beauty to the bawdy; the reflective to the romantic and the divine to the debonair.

This concert will feature soprano Carly Power, the 2015 winner of the Evelyn and Ralph Memorial Scholarship hosted by Art Song Perth, accompanied by Aiden Deasy (Lute) and Makoto Harris Takao (Viola de Gamba), as well as performances by soprano Emma Pettemerides, baritone Kristin Bowtell, and Marilyn Phillips (piano).

This recital starts at 7.30pm and will be at the Church of the Resurrection in Swanbourne. Tickets start from $20.



The Songs in English recital is the first of five to be hosted by Art Song Perth in 2016, including a gala evening in October.

Art Song Perth aims to enhance the musical life of Western Australia through the performance and promotion of art song.

Each year, Art Song Perth presents a series of recitals by both experienced and emerging artists.

These recitals are open to both members and the general public, and provide artists wishing to expand their art song repertoire with a valuable opportunity to perform before an informed and appreciative audience.
