Art Song Perth's recital on September 10th will showcase some of Spain's most exciting songs for voice and piano.

Espana will showcase some of the best of Perth's singers and musicians at the Church of the Resurrection, 105 Shenton Road in Swanbourne.

The works of Rodrigo, Turina, Obradors, and Ravel will demonstrate not only the rhythmic excitement of the Spanish idiom, but the reflective, evocative, and haunting contrasts of a country whose regional differences are revealed in the beauty of Spanish Canciones.

Performers include Naomi Johns (Soprano); Monique Simone (Mezzo Soprano); Louis Hurley (Tenor) and Paull-Anthony Keightley (Bass Baritone) plus Musical Director Marilyn Phillips on piano, Cathie Travers on accordion and Tommy Seah on piano.

The Don Quixote songs of Ravel (regarded as a French composer, but born in Spain) bring to life the character of Cervantes' idealist dreamer.

Montsalvatge's Black Songs feature possibly the sultriest lullaby ever written.

Turina from Andalusia, and Rodrigo from Valencia bring further colour and contrast to this exciting concert with Spanish rhythms very much in evidence.

Obradors gives us thoughts on love, with sadness, cynicism, and cheeky smiles – all in the music!
