Purchasing original artwork does not need to be a pricey or highbrow affair, it can a fun, educational and affordable experience, particularly at the upcoming Art Melbourne 2012 art fair, which is commonly referred to as the annual Affordable Art Fair.
Art Melbourne 2012 is a special event, as all forms and styles of art are brought together under one roof and are subsequently accessible to people from all walks of life. No matter what one's interests, lifestyle or budget is, there is sure to be something that will catch your eye at the Art Melbourne 2012 art fair.
Art Melbourne 2012 will be held from the 24th to 27th of May, 2012, at the Royal Exhibition Building (9 Nicholson Street, Carlton VIC 3053). There will be hundreds of original artworks on display, creating a unique sprawling gallery space in a relaxed environment.
The artworks will be exhibited by a wide range of galleries, and all will be at affordable prices. There will be many styles of paintings to choose from, including indigenous art, pop art, landscape, portrait and abstract, as well as limited edition photography prints, one of a kinds sculptures and ceramics and new media arts.
Event highlights include the Art Series Hotels Charity Auction featuring a framed signed 1/1 edition portrait of Gotye by Emma Hack, valued at $25,000. Gotye and Emma Hack recently collaborated together on the hit music video 'Somebody That I Used to Know (Feat. Kimbra)'. Both Gotye and Emma Hack will be attending the auction. This special event will take place on Friday, 25th May at 6pm on the Talking Art Stage.
The Talking Art Stage will also be the site of several free public lectures, live printmaking demonstrations and workshops over the four day event. Key events include 'Artbank Now' with Daniel Mudie Cunningham, 'Miniature Painting' with Irfan Hsaan and 'Young Guns III' with 2012 Archibald finalists Jeremy Kibble and Luke Cornish (aka ELK) and Julian Meagher, and Emma Hack.
