This 3D optical illusion art gallery provides a whimsical way to spend several hours in Chiang Mai and is guaranteed to change the way you look at some famous paintings and architecture from around the world. Art in Paradise is filled with 130 original paintings divided into themed educational sections - beginning with the theme "water".
Here, you can pretend to be drowning in a pool, surfing in Hawaii, swimming with penguins in Antarctica or trapped in a glass bottle. The next section covers different painted 3D animals, where kids can cuddle an elephant, climb bamboo with pandas or play cat and mouse. Another themed area is "famous paintings" where each painting is a unique opportunity to get involved with some renowned characters and actually stand inside some well-known scenes.
Upstairs at Art in Paradise, the theme is ancient Egypt complete with flying carpet rides and crumbling pyramids. This is an excellent way to learn about one point perspective and vanishing points by being involved in the artwork. The 3D fun continues where you can design your own Time magazine cover shots, go tobogganing and participate in snowboarding scenes.
After all that creative action, head back towards the gallery cafe for a snack and admire the amazing optical illusions you've created, some of which will definitely trick friends and family back home. Have fun and don't forget to take along a phone or camera.
