Do you want to build up your painting and art skills in a casual and social environment? Then Amy Jane's classes are you for you. Every Saturday afternoon (and some Thursday evenings) at The Henderson Gallery in South Bank, Amy will lead you through the process of creating a specific artwork.
The classes are $65 each, but that includes all the materials you need, including paint, brushes and a canvas board. Along with painting, you can enjoy a cup of coffee from the Birrang Coffee shop that is attached to the gallery or bring a bottle of wine and enjoy the social atmosphere of the class.
Amy Jane is an artist who uses art as a way to see beyond the reality that we see around us. This means both exploring the real and then going beyond that into the feelings, ideas and higher metaphysical concepts that create our experience of reality.
The classes take place at the Henderson Gallery, which is a short walk up Earnest Street from the South Bank Parklands. The gallery includes a great exhibition space featuring a constantly changing array of local artists, with a new exhibition nearly every month.
They also have a great coffee shop out front which is the perfect place to relax with coffee, cake or a light meal. There is free WiFi and lots of boards games as well as an overflow of art from the gallery exhibition space on the walls.
The gallery also has several learning spaces where they run a range of classes and courses. Many of the courses are designed for people who feel that they have something to express through painting or drawing, but who haven't had much formal art training.
