This Spring, the City of Melville is proudly presenting its 42nd annual Art Award and Exhibition with a total prize pool of $17,000.
With a rich history of over 40 years, the Art Awards alumni of past entrants and judges reads like a who's who of Perth artists, including Peteris Clematis, Abdul-Rahman Abdullah, Gosia Wlodarczak, Peter Zappa, Claire Bushby, D'hange Yammanee, David Spencer, Louise Mann, Peter Usher, and Mikaela Castledaine to name a few.
The annual art exhibition was developed by the City of Melville to increase opportunities for participation in the arts and cultural program and to foster community cultural development.
Today, the City of Melville Art Award is open to emerging and established visual artists working across 2D and 3D mediums.
This year's exhibition will showcase the works of 260 creative minds all under the one roof. From emerging artists to seasoned exhibitors, alongside Year 12 students, artworks will cover a range of mediums across a number of categories including paintings, works on paper, small sculptural works, textile and new media.
The Art Awards will be judged by industry professionals who will award total prize monies of $17,000. The winner of the $5,000 First prize (acquisitive) will be accessioned into the City's Art Collection. Additionally, there are prizes for each category, including a new award - $1,000 Visions of Melville celebrating the City's 50th Anniversary.
