If you're interested in discovering something special by design, or something vintage, it is truly great to check out some of the popular art and craft markets in this city. So, here are my top picks for your exploration on the weekends, spreading out across different suburbs - from the inner city suburb, north shore, inner west through to eastern suburb.
Eveleigh Artisans' Market
The Eveleigh Artisans' Market offers you an opportunity to purchase original and highly creative handmade products directly from the makers. Held in the heritage blacksmith's workshop, the venue offers you a unique experience. There are about 75 stalls showing a wonderful array of creative works in different categories - art, ceramics, sculpture, sustainable design, fashion, jewellery, accessories, home wares, textiles, furniture, children's design and much more.
When: The first Sunday of every month, from 10am to 3pm
Where: 243 Wilson Street, Darlington (near Redfern Station)
Kirribilli Art & Design Market and Fashion Market
In this
market , you'll find the works from artists, craft practitioners and fashion designers, ranging from paintings, glass, ceramics, homewares, fashion and accessories. Adding to the ambience, there is international food and live music too.
When: The second Sunday of every month, from 9am to 3pm
Where: Bradfield Park and Burton St tunnel, Milsons Point
Balmain Market
Offering original arts and crafts, jewellery, antiques and collectables, unique hand-made items and more, the
Balmain Market is another great choice. Easily accessible to the market if you would like to take public transport.
When: Every Saturday from 8am to 4pm
Where: The corner of Darling Street and Curtis Road
Mosman Village Art & Craft Market
The market has about 150 art and craft stalls, complemented with gourmet food and musical entertainment to offer you a great experience. Once you have finished the shopping, you can also visit the
Mosman Art Gallery which is within a short walk.
When: The first Saturday of the month, from 8am to 3pm
Where: The Mosman Square & Village Green, Spit Junction (Note: there is no January Market, instead an Evening Christmas Market is held in December).
Finders Keepers Market
The Finders Keepers Market is a free bi-annual event, offering you an opportunity to see and buy contemporary art and independent design work which you may not find anywhere else – most items are beautifully designed by artists both locally and regionally.
The June one has already gone, but if you haven't checked out this, you can visit the upcoming event in December. Adding to a festival feel, live music is available to keep you wandering through the venue.
When: Saturday 8th December (evening) & Sunday (9th December) 2012
Where:
CarriageWorks
All these art and craft markets feature different design works and they are not mass-produced items. Besides, the markets are held on different weekends, and so it won't create a conflicting schedule if you love visiting all these markets. Go check them out on the weekends to find something unique and special for yourself and your loved ones.
