Something is hatching at the Abbotsford Convent from Tuesday 19 Jan to Sun 24 Jan 2021. Come and meet The Reeflings. They are a strange, remarkable species of coral, now living at the Convent! Due to the coral reef destruction, the Reeflings have evolved and now can live on land. They have journeyed across the country from the coast all the way to Abbotsford and their eggs have just been discovered by scientists, nestled amongst the gardens and grounds.
It's FREE to come and spend time with the Reeflings, however, you must register for your free ticket! Suited for kids aged 5-11 (all children must be accompanied by a parent, carer or guardian), there's a limit of 50 people per session, with sessions available at 9.30am, 11am and 12.30pm with Auslan led performances on the weekend. These are interactive outdoor performances, playing with inflatable sculptures, sounds and language to create words, names and meanings; creating a new language. Find out more via the given links.
Presented by Abbotsford Convent and Memetica for Convent Kids, the performance will take place across several outdoor locations at the Convent. The meeting point is at the Heritage Gardens. Come along as your help is needed once the young Reeflings hatch. Led by scientists, they'll need your help to adapt to their new surroundings and learn about their weird new neighbours (humans). Help them to communicate with the world.
