Located on Armstrong Boulevard in the Western Precinct of the suburb of Armstrong Creek,
Armstrong Creek BBQ Shelter and Playground is a fantastic new recreation area.
The area includes a playground which has a large variety of modern play equipment, including:
Swingset with toddler swing and standard swing
Bouncy Boat
Slides
Rope Climbing frame
Small Tunnels
Plastic Noughts and Crosses Board
Speak and Listen tube
Wooden Balance Beams
The play equipment is suitable for children of all ages, and is set on areas of pine bark and sand, with blue "soft fall" rubber pathways. There are also wooden seats for parents to sit down and relax, and gardens with native vegetation. A short distance from the playground, there is a basketball hoop and small exercise area with exercise equipment.
The barbecue area is fantastic and features electric barbecues, seating, tables, rubbish bins, and bike parking racks.
All of the structures in this area feature native Australian hardwoods. The barbecue shelter is constructed of a steel frame with Blackbutt and Spotted Gum cladding, while the seats, tables and other street furniture are made of Spotted Gum. The 'pencil poles' in the playground are also constructed out of Blackbutt logs.
The hardwoods combined with the native vegetation give the area a natural feel, and the designers - MDG Landscape Architects -
received an award in 2015 for 'Excellence in Timber Design' for the project.
Overall, it's a nice recreation area that's perfect for a picnic, birthday party, or for the kids to have a play.
