Santa arrived at Arndale shopping centre (470 Torrens Road Kilkenny, SA 5009) on Saturday the 19th of November 2016. His arrival was accompanied by a parade at 11:00 am and gift bags at 12:00 pm. There were also carols, and children who visited Santa received a free gift and 6x4'' photograph. (Complimentary photographs were limited to one per family.)
I missed the fun of the opening parade, but I visited the shopping centre during the week and saw Santa in his Enchanted Magic Forest. It is located in a side wing between Millers and Rivers, on the Harris Scarfe side of the shopping centre. Santa is a very jolly character who is happy to chat to adults and children alike, depending of course on the time and number of little ones waiting to visit with him.
The Enchanted Magic Forest is truly beautiful, featuring and interactive floor which changes colour as you step on the lighted sections, surrounded by green leafy trees lit with white lights and cheery red birds perching in their branches. The "ground" around the path is covered with white snow and dotted with red and yellow toadstools. Furry creatures like rabbits and squirrels venture through the snow and three of Santa's reindeer have lingered by the gate. (Santa tells me he dropped the rest off at the zoo).
Photos with Santa make great gifts for grandparents and uncles, and can even be posted to friends in lieu of Xmas cards. The "Elf Pack" by Event Photo costs $19.99 and includes two 20x15cm coloured prints. The "Rudolph Pack" costs $29.99 and includes three 20x15cm and 4 "wallet" size prints. The "Santa Pack" costs $39.99 and includes 4 gift tag pictures, 2 key tags and a bonus USB in addition to all the contents of the $29.99 pack. I assume having the photo on USB would allow you to print as many copies as you wanted for personal use!
Armada Arndale is a family oriented shopping centre that regularly provides school holiday activities for children and celebrates special events with the community. Other Christmas promotions include free gift wrapping between the 14th and 24th of December. If this is the same as last year, the wrapping service will be provided on a table near the entrance to Big W by volunteers from the Salvation Army. A gold coin donation for their good work would be appreciated.
The advantages of visiting Santa at a regional shopping centre such as Armada Arndale are numerous. These sites are usually more relaxed than the Central Business District and queues are shorter. Christmas sales are in full swing and bargains are on offer. You can often complete your grocery shopping and errands while children are delighted by the decorations.
The centre is located between Torrens Road, Regency Road and Hanson Road, Kilkenny, South Australia. Major retailers include Coles, Woolworths, Big W, Harris Scarf, Rivers, Millers, Jewellery stores, eateries, clothing and novelty stores. Services include a hairdresser, travel agency, optometrists, post office, Commonwealth Bank and several telephone stores.
