I'll be honest; I have never heard of Arj Barker until I saw his name on one of the many posters advertising Fringe acts. My partner however, is an avid fan of the stand-up comedian and was adamant in catching one of his shows. So at 7pm, we headed to the Arts Theatre on 53 Angas St to catch his 60-minute comedy act.

As the audience settled in and the lights dimmed, music suddenly blasted out from the speakers on the stage and much to my surprise, Arj Barker started his brand new show, Go Time with a musical number.

He describes Go Time as both "what audiences expect from me, AND the last thing they expect from me, which if my calculations are correct, will make for a great show." He could not be more right as the show was amazing; well worth the $44 (or well, $36 we paid since we managed to get Rush Tickets).

Arj Barker is a stand-up comedian hailing from San Francisco but has been to Australia so often that he manages to cater to the Adelaide audience, for instance, referencing our 'Beware of Drinkwalkers' public service ads by comparing them to the living dead.

His material is fresh and interesting and maybe what makes it that way is the raw honesty he has in his humour. From serious matters to the environment to your typical toilet jokes, Barker has it all.

I highly recommend anyone who needs a few laughs to catch his show Go Time before the Fringe is over!
