Quintessential Mountain Top escape at Barrington Tops
Only 200 kilometres north of Sydney is the little town of Vacy and the lovely Arinya lodge located within the Eaglereach resort. Arinya means Kangaroo which is quite evident by the hundreds of kangaroos and wallabies in the area and around the lodge. This quintessential home presented to us the perfect getaway from Sydney and was within easy driving distance. Only an hour ahead of Newcastle, the drive to Arinya took us via fields, plains and beautiful landscape.
Vacy, is a little town in the Dungog Shire. Only 9 kms north of Paterson, Vacy also hosts a fun and vibrant Sunday market each week. To get to Eaglereach Resort and Arinya Lodge that's located within, you have to cross the bridge at the northern end of Vacy and take the left 200m after the bridge on to Summer Hill road. As you drive up the mountain along Summer Hill Road you will see beautiful sights, valleys and plenty of kangaroos. About 5 kms up, a large sign for Eaglereach resort will direct the visitors to take a left into the resort. The resort has about 40-50 lodges and Arinya is located at the top end of the resort and boasts of great views. Arinya lodge, however, is managed independently via their booking website.
On the day we went to Arinya Lodge, the fog had settled onto the valley and mountain and it slowly lifted as the day proceeded slowly revealing its beauty. We were welcomed at the lodge by a mum and bub kangaroo, who had perched themselves at the footsteps of the lodge.
Arinya is a 2 bedroom lodge that sleeps 4 people. It has a cosy living space, a well-equipped kitchen and a large bathroom. It has a large deck that overlooks the beautiful valley. As the fog lifted and the expansive views revealed themselves to us, we were in awe of its location and the serenity. Kangaroos, wallabies and rosellas gave us company as we soaked in the beautiful views. The sprawling 13 areas of land on which Arinya stands also has it's very own labyrinth (a course with a single entry and exit leading you to the centre).
The resort has a coffee shop (open certain days of the week) and has an open gym, tennis courts, a swimming pool and an indoor games area with a pool table. There are a number of lookout areas and walks that one can take from Arinya lodge. Mount George Lookout is only a short walk upwards from Arinya and has great views of the valley as well. We ran into a few other holiday goers at the lookout point who recommended some of the popular bushwalks and trails in the area leading us to Goonarook Lagoon.
My ideal getaway consists of a reunion with the natural surroundings, views that please from every angle and a warm fireplace at night. Arinya provided us all of the above and we loved this weekend getaway experience.
Vacy is a beautiful 3 hour drive from Sydney and is just about 45 minutes from Maitland. I highly recommend driving during daylight hours, so make sure you plan your visit and supplies well in advance.
