in the Rocks is full of Aboriginal and Australian art and crafts which have been directly sourced from the artists themselves or the Aboriginal communities.

The gallery isn't quite the kind I'm used to; it's very small and isn't really about displaying art. Instead, every surface is full of items for sale. I'd be more inclined to call it a shop.

In saying that, it is a great place to get your fix of Australian art. Of all the galleries I've seen in The Rocks, I would say this one is one of the best for such a purpose, as it has the biggest variety.

Items in the gallery are split across two rooms and aren't just limited to paintings. In the front room you'll find general Australian arts, such as paintings and prints.

In the small back room there's lots of Aboriginal art, from didgeridoos to paintings. There are even items such as notebooks which you can get as souvenir or gift, as well as a lot of other affordable pieces.

The isn't actually found on Argyle Street, but in Argyle Terrace, the Victorian-style terraces on Playfair Street. A lot of other galleries around here can also be found in other beautiful old buildings, like the Ken Done Gallery, Billich Art Gallery or the Museum of Contemporary Art .

On Saturdays and Sundays you will also find The Rocks Markets taking place on Playfair Street outside the gallery. They run from 10.00am to 5.00pm and include plenty of stalls selling art, as well as other items.
