There aren't too many opportunities to really embrace the cold in Brisbane: walking through the wintry wind tunnel that is George Street doesn't really count. The savvy people at Customs House have figured out the perfect way to combine true winter ambience with Brisbane's love affair with riverside entertainment. The result is Arctic by Customs House Pop Up Bar**], coming to you from the gorgeous Customs House outdoor terrace from Thursday 10 May 2018.

And it's all about igloos. Yes, igloos in Brisbane. Actually, it's about much more than the fun geodesic domes that will sit overlooking Brisbane River. It's also about the furnishings (think fur-draped Northern European comfort and simplicity), a delicious and hearty Polish-inspired menu, a range of winter-inspired cocktails to keep you warm on the inside, and heaters to keep you cosy and warm on the outside. Makes you want to hurry up the arrival of winter, doesn't it?

This special pop up bar will run from Thursdays to Saturdays from 4pm until late, and on Sunday afternoons from 12 noon to 4pm, beginning on 10 May and running throughout the winter months. This means you'll have after work drinks with your workmates well and truly covered, along with a venue for late night drinks and comfort food, or an idyllic spot for a lazy Sunday afternoon by the river. You can enjoy a more bracing experience at the outdoor seats on the terrace, but the igloos will be the snuggly star of the show.

You can reserve your very own exclusive igloo for a group of a maximum eight to ten people, for a period of three hours. There must be a minimum spend of $700 per igloo. Reservation conditions state: "This amount is prepaid and is to be split between bar food and beverages from the menu. The bar food must be pre-ordered and reach a minimum total of $300. The remaining $400 will be available for your group as a bar tab for the night."

The drinks menu features the delights of Belvedere Vodka. The headline act is the Arctic Signature Cocktail — the Belvedere Apple Strudel — a mix of Belvedere Pure, Kraken spiced rum, cloudy apple juice, a cinnamon stick, and juniper berries, served warm and topped with a pastry cigar ($17). You can also enjoy a range of Belvedere spritzes and martinis, or classic cocktails like a Belvedere Ruby Tonic (Belvedere Pure, grapefruit juice, Fever
Tree tonic & a grapefruit slice) ($18), or a Polish Mule (Belvedere Pure, fresh lime, elderflower syrup bitters & ginger beer) ($20). There's also a selection of beer, wine and sparkling.

On the food front, you can order the likes of Baby kransky, sauerkraut, mustard, sourdough ($15), Pickled pork croquettes with mustard mayo (5 for $17), Venison pies with beetroot chutney (3 for $18) or Chocolate Fondue with strawberries and marshmallows ($18). You can download the full food and drink menu here .

You can pop in any time during the bar's opening hours but igloos will need to be reserved. Reservations opened on 1 May. To book please email [email protected] to check availability and to have a booking form sent to you.

Winter in Brisbane just got a whole lot warmer and cosier.
