South Australia was always a progressive state. Way back in 1919, our State Archives Department was established and was the first state archives in Australia at the time. Now, the archives themselves are open during history month, but only for a few very special tours. Come along on a special tour behind the scenes at the State Records of South Australia in its massive space at Cavan. Find out more about how records are kept and see some special treasures from the archive.
State Records of South Australia is the archives and records management authority for the state government. It's responsible for storing government records and providing advice to government. It also houses a research centre for the public (by appointment) to research archived documents. The tours will shed light on how records are preserved and how they are made accessible.
These FREE two-hour tours are part of South Australia's annual history festival. They will be held on May 14th and 28th 2021 at 10am and 2pm. You can find the State Records of South Australia at 115 Cavan Road, Gepps Cross. Bookings are essential,
you can book here on Eventbrite as capacity is very limited. Disabled parking is available onsite. If you'd like to know more about the State Records of South Australia then
