Marking the first time the artist has exhibited in Melbourne, it features photography and sculpture. The exhibition explores the ways humans experience space and raises philosophical questions such as: How does a body pass through a space? What does it leave behind after it's gone? How does a space continue to exist within a body? The exhibition features a series of black and white photographs of bodies and explores the architectural structures that live within the body as muscle and skeletal memory – re-enactments of columns and pillars, walls and rooms, roofs and shelters.
The show will also feature three new sculptures that have been created using light materials, mimicking the look of heavy rock, brick and building parts, which produces a tension between the seemingly heavy materials that seem to float on thin steel rods. Other natural materials like tree branches and sticks have also been used. Révész said: "
For this work, I collaborated with an emerging dancer, Darci O'Rourke (Australian Dance Theatre), to explore how, through movement, the body might reconstruct the spaces it has occupied or passed through. I have also used sculpture to navigate these spaces and take forms from the photographs that further explore the tensions between the transient, unsteady nature of memory, and the structured, material nature of built environments."
Révész explores the interchange between past and present moments and attempts to navigate spaces of instability and uncertainty. She explores ideas of memory and how it is created, sustained or reconstructed. Révész allows room in her works for contemplation and reflection – a slowing down of pace that becomes an antidote to the fast-paced nature of modern existence.
