The Samstag Gallery is currently hosting a series of fine exhibitions. Including Char Soo a visual art installation in association with the Adelaide Film Festival and Daniel Boyd: A Darker Shade of Dark. A more quirky exploration is also on display entitled Les Eaux d'Amoore by Archie Moore.

This slick display includes the professional retail outlet ambience of perfume displays. The artist, Archie Moore explores themes of Aboriginal dispossession, alienation and the colonial past via this most unusual format.

The Concept
The viewer is greeted with a wall of stylishly lit perfume bottles. The concept of recreating specific smells of his childhood was the concept brief of Archie Moore. He met with a master perfumer to create a selection of beautifully presented 'perfume portraits' for Les Eaux d'Amoore. The result is olfactory offerings that evoke the artist's recollection of the diverse smells of his childhood in South East Queensland.

Strange Perfume Creations
The exhibition is home to some strange perfume creations. 'Presage' is the aroma of graphite pencils and paper from his first day of school in the white-dominated society of his childhood. 'Sapphistication', is a combination of Brut 33 and rum is the smell of his sophisticated aunties.

Archie Moore, the Artist
Archie Moore was born in 1970 and his works include paintings, drawings, sculpture, installation, photographs, video and as seen here aromas. His themes involve Aboriginal politics as well as concerns of racism, language, identity and interpersonal relationships. Archie Moore investigates mainstream Australian culture and the resilience of the Indigenous history that it rests upon in his art practice. The indigenous history he sees as still largely overlooked.

The viewer is invited to explore the world of memory and smells via this artist's vision. A biography of smells! Give this exhibition space time to get to know the artist and his strange journey from the past to the now. His experiences and anxieties are uniquely set out for everyone to see (and smell).
