Australia's most engaging art event, the annual Archibald Prize is taking place of Art Gallery of NSW from 26 September 2020 to 10 January, 2021.

It's Australia's foremost portraiture prize. Featuring a who's who from Australian culture, including politicians, celebrities, sporting heroes and artists. The Archibald exhibition features 55 finalists.

Meyne Wyatt's self-portrait was announced as the Packing Room Prize. He's the first Indigenous artist winner in the Archibald Prize's 99-year history.

Since its foundation in 1921, the Archibald Prize has thrilled art enthusiasts and the general public alike. The prize has been awarded to some of Australia's most well-known artists from Nora Heysen, William Dobell, Wendy Sharpe, Brett Whiteley, Cherry Hood, Ben Quilty, Del Kathryn Barton, Tim Storrier and Fiona Lowry.

The Wynne Prize awarded for the best landscape painting of Australian scenery, or figure sculpture, while the Sulman Prize is given to the best subject/genre painting or murals/mural project in oil, acrylic, watercolour or mixed media.

Each year, the trustees of the Art Gallery of NSW judge the Archibald and Wynne, but invite an artist to judge the Sulman. This year's judge is Khadim Ali.

In response to COVID-19, The Art Gallery of NSW has introduced protocols to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of visitors, staff and volunteers at the exhibition.
