For something different I took my kids, 10 and 14 years, to try their hand at archery. Apprehensive at first, they were put at ease with a warm welcome and complete safety rundown at the beginning of the session.

All equipment is provided and once instructed how to hold the bow, load an arrow and aim, it was time to go ahead and fire at the target once given the go ahead by the instructor.

After a couple of tries, they were hitting the target and it was grins all round. The reassuring thing as a parent watching from the side was that no archers can move forward to collect their arrows until the last person has fired.

The instructor was great and paid attention to each and every archer giving advice where needed. Once group confidence had grown and well into the session the instructor placed inflated balloons on the targets. This certainly ramped up the competitiveness between siblings and other groups as the ballons burst one by one. The kids loved this activity and were really pleased with their newly learned skills.

Depending on age and skill level there are a couple of different sessions to choose from and a school holiday program. The parking is ample, bathroom facilities good and picnic benches nearby if you choose to lunch there. We'll be going back!
