Discover how to shoot a bow & arrow in a fun environment
Archery is not one of our most popular sports compared with football, soccer, basketball and tennis, but it is always good to try something new and you never know it could become yours or your child's new passion.
The Archery Centre on Bennelong Parkway at Sydney Olympic Park is in a central location and open to those 7 years and up, 6 days a week (closed Mondays). There are various costs and programs, from beginners to intermediate courses and professional coaching. Everything is included from equipment to safety talk and instructor.
Instruction by an expert is part of every session for new participants
School holidays see some fun 1 hour lessons with challenging games. Little Archers is for 7-12 year olds and Kids on Target is for 10 years and older. Both programs teach the basics and are $16 per person. No experience is needed and new skills learnt heighten responsibility and get your child off the computer and outdoors.
My son took part in the Kids on Target program and thoroughly enjoyed it
Further enhance your experience at the Archery Centre by having a party with your friends. A minimum of 8 people is needed and the group will participate in an Aim for Fun session which can be on either a Saturday or Sunday. Cost is $26 per person and you can bring your own party food and use the BBQ facilities in the picnic area. There is a lot of open space where you can run around, play party games or even have a game of cricket. A party with a difference.
The Centre also runs corporate team building activities and can tailor a package to your needs. A few years back I organised a combined Christmas party with some team building and it was a blast. There were games and medals for the winners and being on a Friday at lunchtime we had the place to ourselves. We were allowed to decorate and found the staff very helpful and flexible to our needs.

Now I see on their website that they have laser clay pigeon shooting as a new team building experience. It's not every day you get to do that. I wish they had that when we were there. It would be fun. With this activity you get to use a 12 gauge shotgun which has been converted to fire harmless infrared laser beams. There are authentic sound effects and when you hit a target it is reflected back to your gun and a 'hit' is recorded on the scoreboard. This is environmentally-safe and you can partake in 1-2hr sessions on Tuesdays to Fridays.
Lots of different programs available and the site is easy to get to by car and recognisable by the big blue sign close to the street. Parking onsite takes the hassle out of searching for a car spot.
The sign makes the Centre easily recognisable from the main street
