Arbor Day is not just a new event because we as a community and world have become more aware of the environment; Arbor Day was a day set aside for planting trees back when I was in primary school and thankfully the awareness of the benefits for planting has increased with people understanding how important it is to have nature and trees in our surroundings.
The day is set aside throughout the World, although celebrated on different dates depending on climates and temperatures. In fact, Arbor Day was first celebrated in Nebraska in 1872 and quickly spread to other countries. With everyone's awareness and education on why it is important to have trees, there is a stronger emphasis on not allowing destruction and long-term damage done to our forests, the animals that live in them and the oxygen that trees release.
On Sunday 23rd June 2019, bring your friends and family to get your hands dirty for a free community tree plant event at Pitman Park for
. This site is part of a long-term water course restoration project winding around the River and is only twenty minutes from the CBD.
There will be plenty of activities for the children including nature play and discoveries and a bugs and slugs adventure. A free sausage sizzle will be provided at
Pitman Park.
Remember to bring your gloves and a hat, perhaps closed in shoes and an insect repellent. For this event, you must register through
Eventbrite , so numbers can be collected for the day's events. More information can be obtained by telephoning 08 8405 6028 or emailing –
