A fun and unique way to see the sights of Surfers Paradise
Surfers Paradise is the tourist heart of the Gold Coast, but it can get quite busy, especially when the sun is out. If you're looking for a way to see the sights from a unique angle, why not try a giant amphibious vehicle? Let me tell you about the Aquaduck.

The Aquaduck has been waddling through the streets of Surfers Paradise since 1996 and is now a Gold Coast icon. Over 1 hour it took us on a tour of the Surfers Paradise esplanade, its famous beaches, and landmarks like the Q1 building.

During the land-based part of our tour, the guides explained the Indigenous history of this part of the Gold Coast –this is the land of the Kombumerri families of the Yugambeh language region.

Like a duck to water

We then travelled to the Broadwater, where the Aquaduck transformed from a bus into a boat. The transition from land to water is seamless, and it's amazing to see how this amphibious vehicle adapts to its environment.

We wove through the picturesque canals of the Gold Coast, giving us a chance to see the more residential side of the city. There was even the chance of a bit of celebrity spotting, with our guides pointing out who owned some of the waterfront mansions.

Celebrities weren't the only wildlife spotted on this tour – we also saw birds and the silvery glimmer of fish in the water. In the distance, the Gold Coast hinterland also reminded us of the natural beauty this often-glitzy place had to offer.

A special experience for kids

There were lots of opportunities to take photos and memories from the tour, with kids on board all getting a go at driving the Aquaduck and getting awarded their own 'Aquaduck Captain' certificate for their efforts.

If you love collecting souvenirs from your adventures, the guides offer captain's hats, plush ducks, and other quacking gifts to purchase on board. As we disembarked from the tour, the guides also gave us free stickers and a discount card for other Aquaduck tours.

What to bring

The Aquaduck is a comfortable ride, with plenty of seating and shade. Regardless, bring sunscreen and a hat – it's Queensland, after all!

Don't wing it, book early

The tour is suitable for all ages and was a wonderful way to see the Gold Coast for the first time or to rediscover the city if you're a local.

Keep in mind this tour is quite popular, so it's a good idea to book in advance to avoid disappointment. There are multiple departure times throughout the day, so you should be able to find a time that works for you.

You can book online from the Aquaduck website, in person at their shopfront or give them a call at (07) 5539 0222.
