At an unassuming tin shed on the side of the road in Franklin, you will find some of the best seafood to be found in Tassie.

Well-known to locals as the go-to spot for their Friday night fish and chips, AquaGrill boasts a full menu of seafood and pizza. Situated on the bank of the Huon River, this small restaurant is licensed and takes advantage of fresh, locally caught seafood.



Owners Sophia and Martino hail from Perugia in Italy, hence the mix of seafood and traditional Italian pizza on the menu. The seafood menu includes all of the fish and chip shop favourites, along with tempting treats such as seafood chowder, smoked salmon, grilled marinated octopus and tempura mushrooms. My coeliac husband was delighted to discover that they do a gluten-free batter. For those who love their pasta, there are also plenty of fresh, homemade favourites such as ravioli, fettuccini and gnocchi, depending on what has been made on the day.

For those with a sweet tooth, there are also plenty of delicious choices. Made with seasonal fruits, the menu changes frequently, but past favourites include pavlova, Huon Valley Berry Tart and Apple Strudel. Coffee is also available, and on a cold night warmed cider is a must!



This little gem can get busy, so it is advisable to book a table in advance or to ring through your take away order. Call them on (03) 6266 3368. It's also worth checking their Facebook page for current specials - check out some of the photos of their fabulous food. Just remember they are closed on Tuesdays, but every other day they are open from 11am to 8pm.



AquaGrill will definitely be on our list when we return to Tasmania, whether it be for Friday night Take Away Fish & Chips for the family or a cosy romantic dinner over a bottle of wine with my hubby.
