APTE

It was that Saturday you were reading about, the Saturday you were hoping for, it was that forecast on the news for the weather that you saw and that other people saw and if you didn't do something outdoors - like, you were wasting your weekend, or the weather, or both.

To be honest, I would never usually have a reason to drive to Alphington, but after my visit to APTE I now have more than one, maybe more than two good reasons to travel there.

As I entered I was greeted with five smiles from five young ladies who were behind the counter. I took a seat wherever I liked and someone was over shortly with some water and a notepad. Prompt service is good service.

What kind of coffee do you have today?' I asked. Experience has taught me that this question really can go either way. However I was not expecting the reply to be something like this:

Well, what kind of coffee do you like?' I know, I too was taken aback.

Sumatran Espresso.
This had a very high flavour intensity. Waves of chocolate and tangy caramels within the body and topped with a dark crema. It had a lovely aftertaste that is all about strength and boldness.

The chicken pide with avocado, rocket, pesto and my change of goats' cheese for other cheese was delicious. The pesto was not that overbearing oily pesto you sometimes get, this was just nice.

Costa Rican Espresso.
Not as intense and brutish as the former but sweeter with a touch of berries. Smooth and delicate with a samurai sword that cuts through flavours.

Have you heard of Three Bags Full or Liar Liar? Well APTE was opened by the same people, was being in the past tense, as it has since changed hands. That being said, it's a popular place for a reason - Why? Because they have refreshing scenery, serve classic meals and pour coffee worth of high praise. APTE is surely A Place To Eat.
