Dolphins regularly play and fish near Canning Bridge, Perth, in Western Australia.

Take a train to the popular walking trail and walk to the South Perth side of the bridge, past the historic Raffles Hotel.

You will see black swans, comfortably eating pond weed or relaxing on the little beaches, pelicans flying by and, if you are lucky, as we were the other day, a pod of dolphins fishing and swimming at top speed, as they herded fish into the shallows.

Keep walking towards the South Perth Yacht Club, past ducks and cormorants and paper bark trees.

Then up to the Blue Water for Lunch or a picnic with the kids at the fantastic pirate ship playground at Heathcote.

A great day out!
