Fresh fruit, jam and juice in a relaxed environment
On a pleasant drive into the Adelaide hills one day to escape the heat, we discovered the Apple Fields Orchard Shop along Onkaparinga Valley Rd, just outside of Verdun. Here you can buy apples, cherries, dried apricots, jams, and all sorts of goodies straight from the farm.
The Apple Fields Orchard Shop is an attractive roadside stall across the road from the actual farm. Here you can get apples according to their season. Pink Ladies, Royal Gala, Granny Smiths, and Fuji were all in stock when we visited. A 1 Kg bag, was $3.50 and two kilos $7.00. A limited selection of seconds was available from $2.00 per kilo bag.
Other fruit included Valencia's and cherries. Dried fruit included dried apricots and dried apples. Baked apple pies started from $8.50 for a family pie. Fresh fruit juice was available from $2.50 a bottle. Flavours included apple, apple and lemon, apple and grape, apple and cherry, apple and blackcurrant and tropical mix.
Selected plants were also available for sale and they made a nice display at the front of the stall. So take a relaxing drive into the country and stock your pantry with farm fresh delicacies.
