In the week before Melbourne enjoys the Australian Open , some of the world's top tennis stars will be in Sydney for the Apia International . The tournament will run from Sunday January 6 to Saturday January 12, at Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre.

Both Australia's top ranked male and female players, Bernard Tomic and Samantha Stosur , will be competing, as will international stars like Li Na (who won the tournament back in 2011 and was a finalist last year), as well as Caroline Wozniacki and Olympic silver medallist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

The Apia International was originally known as the New South Wales Open. It first took place in 1885, making it one of the oldest tournaments in the world. It has been held at Sydney Olympic Park since 2000. Past winners of the men's singles include Rod Laver, Pete Sampras, Lleyton Hewitt and Roger Federer and in the women's singles Margaret Court, Evonne Goolagong Cawley, Gabriela Sabatini, Martina Hingis, Lindsay Davenport and Kim Clijsters have all won.

There are a variety of different ticketing options you can choose from if you would like to attend the event. Adult day passes start at $30.90, while a night ticket starts at $62.90 (night sessions begin on Wednesday January 9). These prices increase each day as the tournament moves into the final stages. By Friday January 11, a day ticket costs $82.90 and a night ticket costs $92.90.

If the tail end of the competition is what you're interested in, you may like the Men's and Women's final package, which costs $173.90 and will get you into the Women's final on Friday January 11 and the Men's final on Saturday January 12.

There are also VIP tickets and the Ground Pass, which costs only $14.90 and gives you access to all outside match courts and practice courts, food and beverage outlets, retail outlets, entertainment and on-site activities. You won't miss out on the main action either - with this pass you will be able to see the goings-on in the Ken Rosewall Arena on the Live Site big screen. The Ground Pass is available for days between Sunday January 6 and Thursday January 10.

There are also family passes for either two adults and two children, or one adult and three children. On Kids Day (which is Monday January 7) all children 16 years and under will be admitted to the event for free (excluding Ken Rosewall Arena), provided they are accompanied by a paying adult. On any day, kids 12 years and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
