Besides the Tennis

There is so much to do at the Australian Open (AO) besides watching the tennis. Birrarung Marr becomes the place to enjoy many festivities during the time of the AO (14-27 January). If you are coming to the tennis you can enjoy pre-or post-tennis food, drinks and entertainment. If you are not a tennis fan you can still come along to enjoy the festivities.

The new AO Tennis Club invites fans to re-think traditional tennis fun with a quirky, cool 'Melbourne' take on the classic tennis court everyone knows and loves. The main AO entrance on the Lower Terrace will feature daytime tennis action and an evening film festival atmosphere made for eating and drinking at the Garden State pop up bar.

The inuguaral AO Sports Film Festival will have feature films each evening at three different locations - AO Tennis Club at Birrarung Marr, The Glasshouse and AO Ballpark. Many old favourites with a sport theme will be showing - Rocky, Bend it Like Beckham, Cool Runnings, Eddie the Eagle and many others, so check out the website for the full film lineup.

The AO Tennis Club, part of the free AO Festival at Birrarung Marr, will offer a unique 'silent cinema' experience on the custom built blue tennis court. Grab your headsets and get ready for an amazing open-air cinema with city views.

Screenings daily: 6:00pm (1:00pm from Jan 25-27)

Glasshouse & Ballpark screenings: Accessible via an Australian Open 2019 ground pass or stadium ticket.

Please Note there is no reserved seating. Screenings will be first come first served until venues reach capacity. Arrive early to secure your spot!

The Upper Terrace is the perfect location for the pop-up of the Canadian Club Racquet Club. Here you can watch the tennis on screens and try out some refreshing Canadian Club, dry and lime by the water. Pop-up restaurants Hunky Dory and Huxtaberger will be there to make sure you don't go hungry.

If you are going to see a tennis match make sure you visit the AO Live Stage too. The AO Live Stage will provide music from local and overseas artists throughout the 15-day festival and any AO ticket, including a ground pass($49) gives you entry. The program can be found here.
