As you cross Liverpool Street to enter Hyde Park, the trees part to reveal the . Wide paths guarded by bright yellow and red flowers lead you to the entrance invoking pleasant thoughts even as you approach the memorial dedicated to Australians and New Zealanders who fought in the Great War. Majestic and hard-faced solders stare down at visitors climbing the steps and their gray stone bodies contrast sharply with the sand-coloured walls.

Once inside the memorial, gaze up into a star-covered dome. Not to worry, no holes have been punched into the ceiling. Rather, it is covered with 120 000 gold-painted stars in remembrance of all who have fought for Australia. In effort to raise funds for the construction of the in the 1930s the stars were sold for two shillings each. While the number of stars do not correspond directly with the number of Australians gone to war, they do represent respect for the sacrifice of all those in the military.

The ANZAC is a heart-felt memorial to all Australians who have served their country in the military. It is located in Hyde Park at the corner of Liverpool and College Streets.
