ANZAC Day is just around the corner, so it is time to work out what we are going to do on this special day.

The Legacy Foundation and Union Hotel will be partnering to commemorate the ANZAC spirit with one of the country's oldest ANZAC Day street events. This will be held on Waymouth Street on Thursday 25th April 2019. They maintain the tradition of mateship is alive and well.



This memorial event has grown from strength to strength over the years as it makes a place for mates to come together and honour the history of our veterans. Regardless of who you are this is a day to remember and celebrate the tradition of mateship and camaraderie. These are just some of the qualities that go makeup what it means to be Australian.

The Union Hotel is the best place to be on ANZAC Day. It doesn't matter whether you are a veteran, serviceman or woman, why not stop in for a drink before or after the parade. Or perhaps you are friends celebrating the service, the Union Hotel is still the only place to be this ANZAC Day. It's free to attend and starts at 10.00 am.

ANZAC Day is always celebrated on 25th April and is one of Australia's most important national occasions. It is the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War.



ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. The soldiers in this army quickly became known as ANZACS and there was a great deal of pride to have served in these forces.

The Australian and New Zealand forces landed on Gallipoli on 25th April. Here they were met with fierce resistance from the Ottoman Turkish defenders. This had been planned as a daring stroke to get Turkey out of the war quickly but it became a stalemate. The campaign went on for about eight months.

At the end of 1915, the allied forces were evacuated from the peninsula and both sides had by then suffered heavy casualties and endured great hardships. More than 8,000 Australian soldiers had been killed in the campaign. Gallipoli also had an immense impact on Australians at home and so the 25th April soon became the day on which Australians remembered the sacrifice of all those men who died in this war.
