ANZAC Day Services on the Sunshine Coast 2019

'ANZAC' was the name given to a combined force of First Australian Imperial Force and New Zealand Army troops who landed on Turkey's Gallipoli Peninsula at around dawn on Sunday, the 25th day of April in 1915, only nine months after the outbreak of World War I. On every 25th day of April for the past one hundred years plus, ANZAC Day has been observed in Australia and New Zealand, becoming an honoured and sacred day of solemn remembrance for all Australian and New Zealand men and women who have fought and died in wars.

The following ode comes from For the Fallen, a poem written by the English poet and writer, Laurence Binyon. It was published in London in the Winnowing Fan: Poems of the Grey War in 1914. The verse which became the League Ode has been used in commemoration services in Australia since 1921.
