Wed 20 Apr 2016 - Mon 25 Apr 2016

This ANZAC Day marks the 100th anniversary of some of the most deadly battles on the Western Front and the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan. It will be a time to reflect on our freedom and pay tribute to the men and women who have served, and continue to serve, our great country.

In Perth, there are a number of Sunset Services in the lead up to ANZAC Day. These will be held at Kings Park at the Flame of Remembrance from 5pm each evening from Wednesday April 20 to Sunday April 24. The services will run for about 30 minutes. You'll find a good viewing point at the Whispering Wall and there will be standing room around the Flame of Remembrance.

Each service has its own theme:
Wednesday, April 20 - 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Poziers
Thursday, April 21 - 100th Anniversary of the Battle Mouquet Farm
Friday, April 22 - 50th Anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan
Saturday, April 23 - 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Romani, Egypt and the 100th
Anniversary of the Battle of Magdhaba, Sinai Desert
Sunday, April 24 - 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Fromelles

The traditional Dawn Service will be conducted at the State War Memorial on Fraser Avenue in Kings Park early on April 25. You'll need to get there early (arrivals are encouraged from 4am) to get a good vantage point. The service starts at 6am and runs for about an hour. There will be big screens so everyone can see what's happening.

From 7am, breakfast will be served down the road at the Gunfire Breakfast. Please bring a gold coin donation to Stirling Gardens on St Georges Terrace (next to Council House). The event runs until 9am when the ANZAC Day Parade commences.

This year's parade has a different route to previous years. The Australian Defence Force will leave from the corner of Barrack Street and St Georges Terrace at 9am, followed by veteran-carrying vehicles and military jeeps, and the Ex-Services Unit, Corps, Regimental Associations. The Parade will march east along St Georges Terrace, turn right onto Victoria Avenue and into Langley Park.

From 11am, Commemorative Service program commences at Langley Park (not the Supreme Court Gardens as in previous years). The event, which features the Salvation Army Perth Fortress Band and an massive choir, will run until midday. The service will have seating for 2000, so it's recommended you arrive from 10:30am to secure a spot.
