ANZAC Day is observed across the country and here in Adelaide, it's no different. Commemorations will begin with an ANZAC Eve youth vigil ceremony at the historic South Australian National War Memorial. From 6pm on Sunday the 24th of April 2022 to 6am the next day, young Australians will conduct a night-long guard of honour around the memorial.
Early on Monday morning, the youth guards will step down and a dawn service will follow at 6am. This service represents a "funeral" within the commemorations. There is neither an attendance limit nor any check-in requirements, so members of the public are most welcome to come along to the National War Memorial at the corner of North Terrace and Kintore Avenue.
A commemorative march will then commence from the corner of North Terrace and Gawler Place at 9:30am with war veterans, Australian Defence Force units, bands and descendants. After the "funeral", this march represents a "walk to the gravesite". Spectators are again most welcome. All you need is the
Guide March_master.pdf route map to know where to go.
And finally, there will be a Cross of Sacrifice remembrance service at Pennington Gardens in North Adelaide at the conclusion of the march. This service represents a "burial" that follows the "funeral" and "walk to the gravesite". The cross was dedicated in 1922 and hence this year would mark its centenary. Once again, your attendance is most welcome on the day.
