The
Friends of ANZAC Cottage are compiling stories about men and women associated with the
City of Vincent, who served in all theatres of war. They will be at the
Mt Hawthorn Streets and Lanes Festival on
Sunday,
May 7,
2017, from
11.00am to
7.00pm and will be collecting stories, scanning photos and documents to add to the collection at ANZAC Cottage.
Many of the young men who walked the streets of those suburbs that we now know as the City of Vincent over 101 years ago, went off to fight overseas for 'King and Country'. ANZAC Cottage was built as a memorial to those men.
Above left: George Belstead: resident of Kalgoorlie Street, Mt Hawthorn who suffered a gunshot wound to his knee whilst serving in Gallipoli (Sunday Times, December 5, 1915).
Top right: William Lamond, from Fairfield Street, Mt Hawthorn, died of gunshot wounds in France (Western Mail: 20th February 1918).

Anyone with information about servicemen and women from the
City of Vincent is welcome to visit the
Friends at the Festival, where your photographs and documents can be scanned and handed back to you on the spot. The
Friends of ANZAC Cottage are keen to build their knowledge of the servicemen from this area, and would love to gather information about our World War I veterans. In addition, information regarding veterans from the area, involved in other conflicts is equally important and most welcome.
How often have you considered documenting those wartime treasures, but never getting around to it? There is no better time than now, to have your family military history safely recorded for posterity, without leaving your sight.
If you would like to know more about this event or further information about ANZAC Cottage, check out their
Facebook page , email
[email protected], call Anne on 0411 445 582, and while you are at it,
take a peek here and see what the Cottage is all about , better still visit.
