A little bit of outside-the-box thinking has resulted in a theatre festival that utilises space all over Brisbane.

Complaints of a lack of theatre spaces in suburban Brisbane have been negated by the Anywhere Theatre Festival , an event that turns a negative into a positive. The event consists of a program of performances that are played out in non-conventional spaces. It could be a train, a town square or even Twitter – anywhere but a traditional theatre space.

The festival will run from 5 until 14 May in venues all around Brisbane. The performances will range from classic narratives to modern art house plays and the performers are a mix of local, interstate and international individuals and companies. The word 'theatre' is something of a misnomer, as the program will include dance, circus, comedy and clowning.

The only limit to the performance space is that it must be within the Brisbane City Council limits, with organisers encouraging directors to get outside of the CBD and use suburban locations. The Anywhere Theatre Festival website will list a program and detailed directions closer to the performance dates. Prices will differ between shows but are expected to average $15.00 per person.

If you are a director or playwright with a show to perform, you can register to perform in the festival by visiting the website. You can register your interest as a volunteer here .
