I enjoy writing to give other people pleasure. I love traveling, eating out, finding fabulous cultural events at home and afar. I hope you'll like and try some of my discoveries, and favourite places and experiences.
Wow, book now
"What is anywhere? Arts for everyone, right where they live", according to the organisers of this festival.
I've been to an Anywhere Theatre performance. It was held in a suburban Brisbane home. The owners had emptied their living area of their own possessions and begged, borrowed and stolen enough chairs to fit about 50 people in, outfitted it with theatre lights to set the mood, and created a stage. The "green room" was one of the upstairs bedrooms and wine and food was provided after the show from the family kitchen. Theatre-loving volunteers supported the show taking tickets at the door, showing people to their seats and later serving the food and drinks. The show involved well known Brisbane performers. It was cheap, top quality, atmospheric and intimate.
The 2018 program is diverse and exciting! There is a musical memoir performed by Melissa Western, Shakespeare, ghost stories, folk song, flamenco dancing, comedy, magic, circus, hip-hop, historical, drama and much, much more. The shows are held in fascinating venues, such as people's homes, coffee shops, pubs, bookshops, The Institute of Psychotherapy, substations, reservoirs, ships and even an Aquatic Centre. Prices range from $12 to $25.
The Anywhere Theatre Festival runs from 10-27 May 2018 in Brisbane, as well as making its debut on the Sunshine Coast this year. You can download the full program from the Anywhere website here
