Help R U OK? and go on a treadmill to raise money
Suicide - a word that implies hurt, anger, and more hurt. This is both from the person who suicides and those left behind. RU Ok is a program that is run all over Australia and a very worthwhile program it has turned out to be.
For the third year in a row, Anytime Fitness is taking action to start conversations around suicide. It seems a conversation that many people will not talk about unfortunately, and they keep their feelings bottled up, which is where R U OK comes in. Suicide is a leading cause of death in Australia.
Research shows exercise and feeling connected to others are two things that can improve anyone's mental wellbeing, and hence Anytime Fitness has developed this treadmill event.
This event will bring people together in support of each other. It will also suggest to the community that it is OK to talk about the stuff that is difficult to talk about.
This will be a fundraising challenge and is a 24 hour fundraising drive that asks members of the community to complete a treadmill challenge. This will mean that one or more of the club's treadmills will be running for a full 24 hour period.
Those in the challenge will receive donations for every 15-minute slot they complete on the treadmill. In the past, there have even been some members who are on the treadmill for the full 24 hours.
It will be held on Friday 31st May from 3.00 pm to Saturday 1st June. It will be on at all participating Anytime Fitness clubs nationwide, and you can find your nearest gym at this site. It is open to Anytime Fitness members and the community as a whole. The cost is from $15.
Do attend this function and get your friends as well, as this is such important fundraising.
R U OK? has an aim, and that is a world where we are all connected and protected from suicide.
