All aboard for a limited season of Anything Goes at the Sutherland Entertainment Centre this weekend. Winner of three Tony Awards, Miranda Musical Societies rendition of Cole Porter's classic is bursting with memorable melodies, sensational dancing, an impressive set and colourful costumes.
As the S.S American journeys across the Atlantic, chaos unravels. Two pairs of mismatched lovers struggle with the dilemma of whether to follow their head or their heart. It's apparent why this production is called "Anything Goes" - through talent and charm, the characters manage to improvise and get away from sticky situations.
Bold characters make their mark on this London-bound luxury liner: Reno Sweeney (performed by Roslyn Howell) - the revivalist come night club star, Moonface Martin (performed by Garth Saville) - a gangster fleeing the law by pretending to be a sailor and later a gangster, and Billy Crocker (performed by Gavin Leahy) - a young stock broker who winds up pretending to be a sailor and later a gangster to pursue the lovely heiress Hope Harcourt (performed by Leanne Ansell).
A highlight of the performance is the act one finale "Anything Goes". Choreographer Natalie Leather has drilled her dancers into perfect precision in this stunning tap routine. And a special mention to Roslyn Howell for her compelling performance as the leading lady - her energy was truly captivating.
This romantic and intriguing production includes Cole Porter's top tunes, 'I Get A Kick Out Of You', 'You're The Top', 'Its De-lovely', 'Friendship' and the crowd pleaser 'Anything Goes'. On quick glance, there were definitely some toes tapping in the house!
Miranda Musical Society is a not for profit organisation and are well regarded in the Sutherland Shire and throughout Sydney.
