Anpuku is an amazing little restaurant hidden away in the back streets of Ikebukuro. This tiny little restaurant, which you can easily walk past if you are not looking for it, conceals some pretty amazing food! They are all about udon noodles, but not just any udon noodles in a soy-based broth - no here they are all about the fusion. Think amazing Italian sauces but instead of being served over pasta, they served over delicious thick udon noodles!



The menu is extensive and offers many different fusion options but on this particular occasion, I could not go past the udon carbonara (1200¥). It sounded amazing and I was not disappointed when it arrived and I got to taste my first Japanese fusion dish. The carbonara sauce is light and creamy with subtle seasoning from the Japanese Dashi and extra creaminess is added when you stir the onsen egg in. It was a perfectly balanced dish and definitely one of my favourite dishes out of the whole trip! It is a place that I will surely be returning to on my next trip, if only to taste that amazing udon carbonara again...
